Alistair Gray - Managing Director

Alistair is the Founder and Managing Director of Genesis and one of Europe’s leading strategic management consultants. An economist and accountant, his career has spanned industries such as; information, utilities, food & drink, energy, automotive and paper.
 
Prior to founding Genesis in 1991, Alistair was a Director of PA Consulting Group and Arthur Young (now Ernst & Young) Management Consultants. He has led numerous strategy development and implementation projects for global clients. His particular strengths lie in a facilitative approach, frequently exploiting the use of technology, major acquisition/diversification and strategic alliance assignments.

In addition to consulting, Alistair holds a number of non-executive appointments with different types of organisations. Until recently he was the Chairman of a specialist fine paper manufacturer, where he provided leadership to a management buy-out team through a major corporate recovery. He was the founding Chairman of the Scottish Institute of Sport (1998-2005) and a member of the High Performance Board of UK Sport.   He is currently Chairman of British Performance Basketball, the specialist company set up to manage the GB Basketball teams in preparation for the London Olympic Games.  He is a Director of the Winning Scotland Foundation, set up to be a catalyst to create a culture of winning in Scotland.  He is also Chairman of the Edrington Group Pension Trustees, responsible for management of a major private pension fund.

Other non-executive appointments include 8 years as a director of Highland Distillers PLC and 5 as a director of AorTech International PLC. He is co-author of ‘The Manager’s Handbook’ – worldwide sales of one million copies.

He is an Executive Member of the European Hockey Federation and a former Chairman and President of Honour of the Scottish Hockey Union.  He has recently been appointed an Honorary Professor in Sports Studies at the University of Stirling (The Scottish University of Sporting Excellence) and also holds a visiting teaching position in corporate leadership on the International Masters Programme at Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia).
